A lost foam casting assembly comprising a foam pattern, a foam sprue having a lower end connected to the foam pattern and also having an upper portion with an upper end, a mold flask containing the foam pattern and sand, the sand surrounding the foam pattern and at least a portion of the sprue, a sleeve surrounding the upper portion of the sprue and extending above and below the upper surface of the sand, and a sprue cup surrounding the sleeve for directing molten metal into the sleeve and onto the upper end of the sprue.
