A transmission line loudspeaker system comprises a loudspeaker (1) and a transmission line enclosure (2). The line (2) is of circular or elliptical cross-section for a circular or elliptical loudspeaker respectively to reduce near field reflections directly back to the loudspeaker and to reduce enclosure vibrations. The line may be bent smoothly to avoid uncontrolled reflections at the corners and may fold about itself (see Fig. 3). The line may taper and include sound-absorbent wadding (6). The line (2) and loudspeaker (1) may be mounted in a second box enclosure (4) for ease of handling and to isolate line (2) vibrations, The end of the line (2) may includes a port (5) preferably formed from the second enclosure (4) to reflect back sound waves to the loudspeaker (1). This doubles the effective line length, so that shorter lines (2) may be used. Line length is preferably such that reflected waves enhance the speaker sound.
