Alloy steels that combine high strength and toughness with high corrosion resistance are achieved by a dislocated lath microstructure, in which dislocated martensite laths that are substantially free of twinning alternate with thin films of retained austenite, with an absence of autotempered carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides in both the dislocated martensite laths and the retained austenite films. This microstructure is achieved by selecting an alloy composition whose martensite start temperature is 350 °C or greater, and by selecting a cooling regime from the austenite phase through the martensite transition region that avoids regions in which autotempering occurs.

Dans cette invention, on obtient des aciers alliés associant une grande dureté et une haute résistance à la corrosion avec une microstructure en treillis disloquée, dans laquelle les treillis de martensite disloqués sont sensiblement exempts de macles alternées avec des couches minces d'austénite retenues, en l'absence de carbures, nitrures et carbonitrures trempés automatiquement, à la fois dans les treillis de martensite disloqués et les couches d'austénite retenues. On obtient cette microstructure en sélectionnant une composition alliée dont la température de démarrage de martensite est de 350 DEG C ou plus, et en sélectionnant un régime de refroidissement dans la phase d'austénite par la région de transition de la martensite évitant les régions dans lesquelles se produit la trempe automatique.
