TITLE Improved Low Density Nonwoven Aramid Sheets ABSTRACT Less porous, more abrasion-resistant nonwoven aramid sheets are made by expanding a smooth-surface, dried, wet-laid sheet of fibrids and fibers, which has fused, nonexpandable, densified regions, segmented by spaced interruptions of nonfused regions of the sheet structure, in a pattern which encloses expandable portions of the sheet structure. The re-wet sheet is heated dielectrically to expand the interior of the nondensified portions without substantially roughening or disrupting their surface skin.
