ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A piston is provided herein comprising hydrodynamic skirts and crowns, pressure-actuated sealing rings of fixed excursion or balanced by hydrodynamic reactions, or no rings at all, stringent temperature control, ample oil on the cylinder wall even near top-dead-center. The piston is characterized by absence of abrasion between piston and cylinder and much lower friction, resulting thereby in higher fuel economy and longer engine life.
