-8- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mount-demount head on a tire changer for removing tire from and replacing tires on wheel rims which have adjacent peripheral and facial surfaces thereon has a depression formed therein. A low friction insert is made to fit within the depression in the head. The insert has adjacent diverging surfaces which are positioned proximate to the rim peripheral and facial surfaces during tire mount-demount operations to form a buffer between the head and the rim surfaces during both tire removal from and replacement on the wheel rims.
