A low humidification and durable fuel cell membrane (10) is provided with water adsorbing material (12) embedded therein in order to adsorb water under wet conditions and provide a reservoir of water to keep the membrane irrigated 5 under dry conditions. A hydrogen oxidation catalyst (14) is provided on the water adsorbing material (12) which will catalyze the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen that are crossing through the membrane and will serve to irrigate the membrane and keep the water adsorbing material full of water. Accordingly, the humidification requirements to a fuel cell stack in an operating system are reduced.

L'invention concerne une membrane durable, à faible teneur en humidité, pour pile à combustible, dans laquelle une substance absorbant l'eau est intégrée, de manière qu'elle absorbe l'eau dans des conditions humides et qu'elle constitue un réservoir d'eau afin de maintenir l'irrigation de la membrane dans des conditions sèches. Un catalyseur d'oxydation à l'hydrogène est prévu sur la substance absorbant l'eau afin qu'il catalyse la réaction de l'hydrogène et de l'oxygène se croisant dans la membrane, qu'il serve à irriguer la membrane et à maintenir la substance absorbant l'eau pleine d'eau.
