ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An animal trap of the leghold typo having low impact force is disclosed. The means for lessening the impact force of the jaws when they close takes one of three forms. The first is an inertial snubber. The second is an escapement mechanism. The third is a programmed control of the impact force by changing the shape of the bearing surface of the jaws on which the spring rides.
