An apparatus for and method of generating a useful electrical output within a system employing a flame. A thermopile receives heat energy from the flame and generates electrical power. This electrical power is converted to a higher voltage by a special low voltage DC-to-DC converter which operates shortly after ignition. During steady state operation of the flame, a second DC-to-DC converter produces a higher voltage output from the thermopile output. However. the second DC-to-DC converter provides both regulated and unregulated outputs, and regulates the input voltage to keep the valves in the ON state and achieves maximum output power from the thermopile.
