ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gas-filled cable having low heat emission and low power loss and being used for the transmission of high voltage electric current. The cable includes one or more conductors which are axially spaced in position relative to each other in the cable by means of supporting insulators inside an enclosing conduit which is filled with an insulating gaseous medium. In such a cable the conduit comprises a cylindrical metal sheath of plain or low-alloy merchant steel having a carbon content of less than 0.6% and a metal shield of non-magnetic material fixed inside the sheath and having a low specific electrical resistivity.
