ABSTRACT A process and catalyst for hydrating olefins to form alcohols whereby the olefins are contacted with water vapor in the presence of a hydration catalyst comprising a predominantly siliceous support material impregnated with phosphoric acid. The aluminum and iron content of the supported catalyst is restricted to n collective concentration less than about 2.25%, by weight, of the phosphoric acid-free support.
