A purified low molecular weight .beta.-D-glucosidase is produced from Acidothermus cellulolyticus ATCC 43068. The enzyme is water soluble, possesses activity against pNP-.beta.-D-glucopyranoside, has a high degree of stability toward heat, and exhibits optimal temperature activity at about 65 ~C at a pH range of from about 2 to about 7, has an inactivation temperature of about 80 ~C at a pH range of from about 2 to about 7 and has a molecular weight of about 50.5-54.5 as kD determined by SDS-PAGE.
L'invention concerne une .beta.-D-glucosidase de faible poids moléculaire obtenue à partir d'Acidothermus cellulolyticus ATCC42068. L'enzyme est hydrosoluble et exerce une activité contre la pNP-.beta.-D-glucopyranoside, se caractérise par une bonne stabilité thermique, et présente une activité optimale à une température d'environ 65 ~C dans la gamme de pH comprise entre environ 2 et environ 7, présente une température d'inactivation d'environ 80 ~C dans une gamme de pH comprise entre 50,5 et 54,5 kD selon la technique SDS-PAGE.
