More specifically, in accordance with the invention as broadly claimed, they is provided a low-noise controllable vacuum release device for regulating/controlling suction in an aspiration line, said device comprising a body defining a main fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and a longitudinal chamber extending there-between, and a blockable bypass inlet provided with an aperture opening to the atmosphere and sloping in the general direction of the fluid outlet from an external surface of the body to said chamber and intersecting said chamber at an acute angle with respect to a longitudinal axis thereof, connecting the centre of the main fluid inlet to the fluid outlet. In operation, when the fluid outlet is connected to a vacuum source, a main fluid stream is drawn from the inlet towards the outlet and an air flow is drawn from the bypass inlet and merges with the main fluid stream with an acute incident angle so that flow separation, turbulence and therefore aerodynamic noise are reduced. Should an obstruction occur at the main fluid inlet the bypass airflow is automatically increased thus preventing excessive suction force to develop at the main inlet.
