Abstract This invention relates to an electrode having a novel electrocatalyst coating and to a method for the preparation of the electrode for use in electrochemical cells, particularly those employing alkaline electrolytes in the anolyte compartment of the cell. The electrode of the invention comprises an electrically conductive substrate coated with the oxides of cobalt and tungsten. The electrode is particularly suitable as an anode since the eleotrocatalyst coatings resist destruction by oxygen. 34,137-F
