McKay ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An improved low phosphate content detergent composition comprising about 5% to about 35% by weight of a mixture of orthophosphate and pyrophosphate builder salts having a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:200; from 0% to about 30% of a tripolyphosphate builder salt; from 3% to 30% of an organic water-soluble syn- thetic detergent selected from the group consisting or anionic, nonionic, zwitterionic, and ampholytic detergents; and from about 0.1% to about 4% of a glassy phosphate.
