A reinforced molded article having reinforced protrusions extending from the surface of the article is suitable for molding into automobile trim. The article comprises at least one thermoplastic; about 2 % to about 15 % by volume reinforcing particles having one or more layers of 0.7 nm-1.2 nm thick platelets, wherein more than about 50 % of the reinforcing particles are less than about 20 layers thick; whereby the reinforcing particles reinforce a protrusion from the surface of the molded article, the protrusion having a thickness of less than 1/10 inch. A method of producing reinforced articles comprising this reinforced protrusion is also disclosed.

L'invention concerne un article moulé renforcé qui présente des protubérances renforcées prolongeant la surface de l'article, et convient pour un moulage destiné à confectionner une garniture d'automobile. L'article comprend au moins une matière thermoplastique, environ 2 à 15 % en volume de particules de renforcement en une ou plusieurs couches dont l'épaisseur des lamelles est comprise entre 0,7 et 1,2 nm. Plus de 50 % environ des particules de renforcement ont une épaisseur inférieure à environ 20 couches. Les particules de renforcement renforcent une protubérance qui prolonge la surface de l'article moulé et présente une épaisseur inférieure à 1/10 de pouce. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé de production d'articles renforcés comprenant ladite protubérance renforcée.
