A phosphorous- and sulfur-containing additive and its use to impart anti-wear and/or antioxidant properties to oleaginous compositions such as fuels and lubricating oils, particularly power transmission compositions, such as automatic transmission fluids, is disclosed. The additive comprises a mixture of products formed by simultaneously reacting (1) a beta-hydroxy thioether, such as thiobisethanol, and (2) a phosphorous-containing reactant, such as tributyl phosphite. The reaction is carried out under reduced pressure conditions (e.g., -40 KPa to -100 KPa) to limit the amount of thioether species in said additive to less than about 45 mole %.
Additif contenant du phosphore et du soufre ainsi que son emploi afin de conférer des propriétés anti-usure et/ou anti-oxydante à des compositions oléagineuses telles que des carburants et des huiles lubrifiantes, notamment compositions pour boîte de vitesse telles que des fluides pour boîte de vitesse automatique. L'additif comprend un mélange de produits formé par réaction simultanée de (1) un bêta-hydroxy thioéther tel que thiobiséthanol, et (2) un réactif contenant du phosphore tel que le phosphite tributylique. On fait intervenir la réaction dans des conditions de pression réduite (par exemple, -40 KPa à -100 KPa) afin de limiter la quantité d'espèces de thioéther dans ledit additif à moins d'environ 45 mol %.
