ABSTRACT A low-profile ventilation fan is disclosed having a housing with a partition in the housing dividing it into a spiral- shaped first chamber and a second chamber. The first chamber and second chamber communicate through an opening that allows air flow through the fan. A rotor having an axle and radial blades is oriented in the first chamber such that the rotor axle is substantially perpendicular to a cross-section through the opening. The first chamber has an air flow outlet that is substantially perpendicular to the axle and substantially tangential to the rotational path of the rotor blades. An air flow inlet in the second chamber is substantially perpendicular to, and intersects, the axis of the axle. The air flow inlet and air flow outlet are aligned so that inlet air flow and outlet air flow are in the same direction.
