A copper graphite composite material suitable for use in applications such as brushes, switches and contact materials for rail systems and other industrial devices. The composite comprises a copper network matrix having a plurality of pores containing graphite. The composite may have an IACS value of at least 40 % which may even be higher than 70 % and a density value of at least 6.0 g/cm3. The method for preparation of the composite comprises mixing graphite and copper powder under non-oxidising conditions, compacting the mixture and sintering under non-oxidising conditions.

L'invention concerne une matière composite à base de cuivre et de graphite appropriées à des applications telles que des brosses, des commutateurs et des contacts destinés à des dispositif ferroviaires et à d'autres dispositifs industriels. Ce composite comprend une matrice de réseau en cuivre comprenant une pluralité de pores contenant du graphite. Ce composite peut présenter une valeur I.A.C.S. d'au moins 40% et pouvant même dépasser 70 % ainsi qu'une valeur de densité d'au moins 6 g/cm<3>. Le procédé de préparation de ce composite consiste à mélanger des poudres à base de graphite et de cuivre dans des conditions non oxydantes, à comprimer ce mélange et à le fritter dans des conditions non oxydantes.
