The present invention is directed to a golf ball (100, 200) comprising a soft core (30, 40) and a hard cover (10) such that the golf ball (100, 200), when struck such as in play, exhibits a reduced spin rate. The cover (10) may include a single cover layer (10) or multiple cover layers (10, 20). In a particularly preferred aspect, the golf ball (100, 200) comprises a mantle (30, 40) or inner layer (30, 40) that defines a hollow interior. The hollow metal mantle (30, 40) along with one or more resilient outer core layers (20, 30) constitutes the soft core (30, 40). The golf ball (100, 200) of the present invention may also utilize an enlarged diameter which serves to further reduce spin rate. The resulting golf ball exhibits properties of reduced spin without sacrificing durability and resilience.
