ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved convertor for the reaction of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide to form elemental sulfur at the sulfur dew point temperature of the gas involving a gas inlet means in the upper portion of the convertor above the catalyst which allows the gaseous portion of a Claus plant tail gas stream to enter the sulfur convertor and flow uniformly downward through the catalyst bed while simultaneously removing liquid elemental sulfur to prevent it from coming in contact with the catalyst bed. 79206ART0102
