A system for treating diesel exhaust is disclosed. The system includes a first filter (26) including layers of filtration material (30) positioned between layers of corrugated metallic foil (32). The metallic foil defines a honeycomb arrangement of longitudinal passageways (34) from an upstream end to a downstream end and also openings (33) for allowing exhaust to pass between adjacent longitudinal passageways of the metallic foil. The filtration material is positioned such that exhaust between the adjacent longitudinal passageways passes through the filtration material. The metallic foil also includes flow diverting structures (25) to divert flow within the longitudinal passageways through the openings. A second filter (28) is positioned downstream from the first filter. The second filter defines a honeycomb arrangement of longitudinal passageways (62). The longitudinal passages are selectively plugged adjacent upstream and downstream ends (63, 64) to force flow radially through walls between the longitudinal passages of the second filter.
L'invention concerne un système pour traiter les gaz d'échappement diesel. Le système comporte un premier filtre comportant des couches de matière filtrante positionnées entre des couches de film métallique ondulé. Le film métallique définit un agencement en nid d'abeilles de passages longitudinaux allant d'une extrémité amont à une extrémité aval et d'ouvertures permettant le passage des gaz d'échappement entre des passages longitudinaux adjacents du film métallique. La matière filtrante est positionnée de telle sorte que les gaz d'échappement entre les passages longitudinaux adjacents passent à travers la matière filtrante. Le film métallique comporte également des structures de déviation de l'écoulement pour dévier l'écoulement dans les passages longitudinaux à travers les ouvertures. Un deuxième filtre est positionné en aval du premier filtre. Le deuxième filtre définit un agencement en nid d'abeilles de passages longitudinaux. Les passages longitudinaux sont bouchés de manière sélective à proximité des extrémités amont et aval pour forcer l'écoulement radialement à travers les parois entre les passages longitudinaux du deuxième filtre.
