Provided herein are novel polythiophene compounds having polyalkoxyl sidechains and low temperature irreversible upon activation (I UA) thermochromic compounds/compositions thereof The NA thermochromic compounds or compositions are activated and exhibit an IUA color by heating to or above a reversible thermochromic transition temperature (RTTT) and cooling to or below an irreversible thermochromic transition temperature (IRTTT) in less than 2 seconds The activated IUA thermochromic compounds or compositions will retain their IUA color as long as the compounds or compositions are kept at or below about 5 degreeC below the IRTTT The IUA thermochromic compounds/composition can be used to prepare IUA thermochromic indicators which can monitor subjects stored below a pre-determined temperature and detect the subjects that have been exposed to a temperature above the pre-determined temperature.

Linvention concerne de nouveaux composés polythiophène qui présentent des chaînes latérales polyalcoxyle et des composés/compositions thermochromatiques irréversibles lors de lactivation à faible température (IUA) de ceux-ci. Les composés ou les compositions thermochromatiques IUA sont activées et présentent une couleur IUA par le chauffage à une température égale ou supérieure à la température de transition thermochromatique réversible (RTTT) et le refroidissement à une température égale ou inférieure à une température de transition thermochromatique irréversible (IRTTT) en moins de 2 secondes. Les composés et les compositions thermochromatiques IUA activés retiendront leur couleur IUA tant que les composés ou les compositions sont maintenues à une température égale ou inférieure à environ 5 degrés C au-dessous de la IRTTT.
