A method and apparatus of dyeing material is described in which the apparatus includes a liquid retaining vessel adapted to receive a dye solution and a drying chamber having a microwave generator. Material to be dyed is conveyed to the vessel, immersed in the dye solution and then conveyed to the drying chamber where it is subjected the material to electromagnetic energy from the microwave generator. It is preferred that the material to be dyed be dried in the drying chamber in a tensionless state.
