A process for purifying a naphthalenic carboxylic acid comprising contacting at a temperature below about 575 °F a mixture comprising an impure naphthalenic carboxylic acid and a solvent in the presence of hydrogen gas with a noble metal on carbon catalyst. The process results in reduced amounts of organic impurities in the purified acid when compared to other purification processes.

L'invention concerne un procédé de purification d'acide carboxylique de naphtalène consistant à mettre en contact, à une température inférieure à 575 DEG F environ, un mélange comprenant un acide carboxylique de naphalène impur et un solvant, et ce en présence d'hydrogène gazeux, avec un catalyseur carbone recouvert d'un métal noble. Par rapport à d'autres procédés de purification, le procédé selon l'invention permet d'obtenir un acide purifié renfermant des quantités réduites d'impuretés organiques.
