A low thermal expansion cordierite ceramic honeycomb is obtained by controlling crystal phases in such a manner that a cordierite crystal phase is not lower than 60% and an indialite crystal phase is not greater than 30%, wherein a sum of the cordierite crystal phase and the indialite crystal phase is not lower than 85%. Moreover, to this end, a method of producing the low thermal expansion cordierite ceramic honeycomb, having the steps of mixing raw materials and forming agents to obtain a raw materials batch, extruding and drying the raw material batch to obtain a formed body, and sintering the formed body, is characterized in that, during the sintering step, a temperature descending rate at least from a maximum temperature to 1300°C is not greater than 100°C/hour.

L'invention concerne une structure alvéolaire céramique à cordiérite présentant une faible dilatation thermique, qui se caractérise en ce qu'elle comprend au moins 60 % d'une phase cristalline à cordiérite dans laquelle la somme de la phase de cordiérite et de la phase d'indialite représente au moins 85 % de la phase totale. L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de ladite structure alvéolaire dans lequel une fournée de matière première est obtenue par mélange d'une matière première avec un adjuvant de façonnage. La fournée est façonnée par extrusion, séchée puis soumise à cuisson, et se caractérise en ce que, pendant l'étape de cuisson, le taux d'abaissement de la température à partir d'un maximum de 1300 DEG C est d'au plus 100 DEG C/heure. La faible dilatation thermique de la structure alvéolaire céramique est obtenue par réglage de sa phase cristalline réalisé par régulation de la température pendant la formation de son crystal.
