A low tack, low VOC gel coat is disclosed comprising a unsaturated polyester resin derived from maleic anhydride and up to 30% of an organic solvent. The resin is characterized by : a viscosity of less than or equal to about 1750 mPa.s (1750 cp) at 70% NVM in styrene ; a glass transition temperature greater than or equal to about 11~C ; and a weight average molecular weight less than or equal to about 6,050. A process for making such a gel coat is also disclosed.

La présente invention concerne un enduit en gel à base de composé organique faiblement poisseux, comprenant une résine de polyester insaturé dérivant de l'anhydride maléique et jusqu'à 30 % d'un solvant organique. Cette résine se caractérise par une viscosité n'excédant pas environ 1750 mPa.s (1750 cp) pour 70 % de NVM dans le styrène, par une température de transition vitreuse n'excédant pas environ 11 ·C, et par une masse moléculaire moyenne en masse n'excédant pas 6,050. L'invention concerne également un procédé de fabrication d'un tel revêtement en gel.
