A low-voltage ballast-free energy-efficient ultra-violet material treatment and purification system and method having an ultraviolet (UV) source comprising a gas discharge UV lamp (12) having spaced electrodes (16, 17), a source of a low-voltage, high-frequency alternating current square wave voltage (20) and connected directly to the spaced electrodes to non- thermionically excite the gas discharge UV lamp (12). A flow sensor (26) is used to proportionately control the intensity of UV generation as a function of flow rate.

L'invention porte sur un système de traitement et de purification par les UV, sans ballast, à basse tension et à rendement énergétique élevé, et sur le procédé associé comportant: une source d'UV comprenant une lampe UV (12) munie d'électrodes distantes (16, 17), une source de courant alternatif (20) à ondes carrées directement reliée aux électrodes basse tension de manière à pas exciter thermiquement la lampe (12), et un détecteur de flux (26) servant à proportionner l'intensité de la production d'UV en fonction du courant.
