The coupling (100) includes a main body (102) with a fixed frame (120) and a locking pawl (110). A carriage (116) and impact member (126) are connected in spring-biased fashion to the frame (120). The carriage (116) controls locking of the pawl (110) while the impact member (126) continually urges the pawl (110) in a counterclockwise direction. Pressing the release button (112) causes the carriage (116) to separate from the pawl (110) permitting the impact member (126) to rotate the pawl (110) to permit entry and exit of a LATCH loop (12) into locking communication with the tooth (110a) of the pawl (110). When the button (112) is released, the carriage (116) maintains the pawl (110) open until a LATCH loop (12) is impacted into the back (110d) of the pawl (110) to disengage it from the carnage (116) to lock the pawl (110) closed.
