A lower chord bearing joist (20) comprises a lower elongate chord member (24) being cold-formed from a unitary piece of sheet steel, the lower elongate chord member having a flange portion and a web receiving portion orthogonal thereto, the web receiving portion having two web receiving tabs (46, 48) and a pair of inner flange portions (45, 47) each extending outward from one of the web receiving tabs respectively; an upper elongate chord member (22), wherein the upper chord member is generally the same length as the lower chord member; and a generally planar steel web (26) attached to the web receiving portion of the lower elongate chord member (24) between the two web receiving tabs (46, 48) and attached to the upper elongate chord member (22). A plurality of lower chord bearing joists may form a supporting system for use in composite floor and roof systems.
