A Locating Perimeter Device, or LPD, allows users to track the location of people and equipment within a facility. The person or equipment is provided with a locator device that can be housed in a tag, wristband, or a device permanently attached to a piece of equipment. This locating perimeter device is tracked by a series of towers, which are stationed throughout the facility that allow the system to determine the location of the person or equipment within the facility to within a few feet. LPD provides functionality similar to Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, but operates inside buildings, where GPS signals cannot penetrate. With costs being much less than Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The Locating Perimeter Device (LPD) uses a series of towers to track. These towers are set up in a grid pattern. These towers can be spaced up to 300 ft apart. The towers are all linked to a mainframe computer that receives packets of information (code) from all of the tagged items.
