This invention relates to a method of controlling the soot induced viscosity increase of a diesel engine lubricant composition comprising a base oil and a dispersant, by including in said lubricant composition an effective amount of an antiox-idant, characterised in that the antioxidant comprises a dihydrocarbyldithiocarbamate of a metal selected from antimony, bismuth and mixtures thereof. The antioxidant may optionally contain at least one other compound selected from a phenolic and an aminic compound. The method of the present invention improves the performance retention of the dispersant additive, and thus inhibits the soot-induced viscosity increase of the lubricant.

L'invention concerne un procédé de lutte contre l'augmentation de la viscosité, induite par la suie, d'une composition lubrifiante de moteur Diesel comprenant une huile de base ainsi qu'un agent dispersant, ce procédé consistant à ajouter à la composition lubrifiante une dose efficace d'un antioxydant, lequel est caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend un dihydrocarbyldithiocarbamate d'un métal choisi parmi l'antimoine, le bismuth et des mélanges de ceux-ci. Cet antioxydant peut éventuellement contenir au moins un autre composé choisi parmi un composé phénolique et un composé aminofonctionnel. Le procédé de l'invention améliore les caractéristiques de rétention de l'additif dispersant et donc inhibe l'augmentation de viscosité du lubrifiant, induite par la suie.
