ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Lubricant compositions adapted for use under extreme pressure conditions comprising a major proportion of an oil or grease base material and a minor proportion of an additive system containing as an essential component an inorganic phosphate salt, or mixture thereof, in solid form. Preferred salts are alkaline earth metal ortho- or pyrophosphates exemplified by dicalcium phosphate.
