ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for thickening an organic liquid, adapted for use as a lubricant grease, selected from the group consisting of mineral oil, polyglycols, acyclic aliphatic and cycloaliphatic alcohols, ketones, esters, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, silicones, and mixtures thereof. Said process comprises mixing with the organic liquid, under the influence of heat and with grinding, an aliphatic sulphonate of a metal belonging to Group II or III of the Periodic Table, and an oxide of said metal in sufficient quantity to render said sulphonate overbasic, wherein said sulphonate is present in an amount of from 5 to 40% by weight.
