ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to oil soluble additives particularly useful in heavy duty lubricating oil compositions, and to concentrates or lubricating composi- tions containing these additives. The additives are various metal salts of mono- or dicarboxylic acids, anhydrides, esters, etc., which have been substituted with a high molecular weight hydrocarbon group, and derivatives thereof. The high molecular weight hydrocarbon group has a number average-molecular weight (Mn) of greater than about 900. The metal salt additives are especially useful as detergents, or dispersants. The preferred metal salts are those of Zn and Cu.
