In this lubricating device a lubricant container (7) is connected by way of lines with lubrication points (9) which are .arranged at a base plate (3) forming lateral borders of a step belt (4) or plate belt. Provided at escalator steps (5) of the step belt (4) or at plates of a plate belt are sliding pads (6) which project slightly beyond the side edges of the escalator steps (5) or the moving walkway plates and, when sliding past the lubrication points (9), take over the lubricant and transfer it to the base plate (3).
