1 ABSTRACT A crankcase oil for internal combustion engines, of the formulated type having an ashless dispersant addi- tive compound desirably also with an alkaline earth metal salt of a petroleum sulfonic acid or of an alkaryl sulfonic acid, is improved in having therein a di-C1-4 alkyl C12-30 alkyl (or alkenyl) phosphonate provided in a minor quantity sufficient to reduce fuel consumption of said engine.
