ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Lubricating oil dispersant viscosity index improvers are made by grafting maleic anhydride to an ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer such as an ethylene/propylene copolymer or ethylene/propylene/non-conjugated diene terpolymer, using a free radical catalyst and then reacting the grafted intermediate with an ether amine having the structure R - O -?R1NH? H wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group and R1 is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group.
