A lubricating oil composition having a sulfur content of up to about 0.4 wt. % and a sulfated ash content of up to about 0.5 wt. % as determined by ASTM D874 is disclosed which comprises (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; (b) at least one oil-soluble or dispersed oil-stable boron-containing compound having no more than about 600 ppm of boron, based upon the total mass of the composition; and (c) at least one oil-soluble or dispersed oil-stable molybdenum-containing compound having no more than about 800 ppm of molybdenum, based upon the total mass of the composition; wherein the lubricating oil composition has a ratio of sulfur to molybdenum of about 5:1 to about 500:1.

L'invention concerne une composition d'huile lubrifiante présentant une teneur en soufre allant jusqu'à environ 0,4% en poids et une teneur en cendres sulfatées allant jusqu'à environ 0,5% en poids tel que déterminé par la norme ASTM D874. Ladite composition comprend: (a) en majeure quantité, une huile de viscosité lubrifiante; (b) au moins un composé contenant du bore soluble dans l'huile ou stable dans l'huile dispersée présentant pas plus d'environ 600 ppm de bore, sur la base de la masse totale de la composition; et (c) au moins un composé contenant du molybdène soluble dans l'huile ou stable dans l'huile dispersée présentant pas plus d'environ 800 ppm de molybdène, sur la base de la masse totale de la composition; la composition d'huile lubrifiante présentant un rapport de soufre sur molybdène d'environ 5:1 à environ 500:1.
