ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention is directed to the use of a magnetizable fluid in a constraining magnetic field as the sole lubricant within a gap between all surfaces requiring lubrication as compared to known lubricated assemblies using a conventional lubricant and using the magnetizable fluid for purposes of sealing the conventional main lubricant within the bearing gap. Moreover, the invention provides for stabilization of bearings, specifically of the type containing a magnetizable fluid for lubricant, wherein such bearing is a self-contained permanently lubricated bearing. In this type of bearing, during operation, pressure differences will build up between different zones containing a lubricant and, in accordance with the invention, pressure equalization is achieved by at least one bypass channel other than the bearing gap for the lubricant, the bypass channel interconnecting the zones.
