For the lubrication of the cylinders in marine diesel engines, it is normal practice to supply doses of oil through non-return valves in a ring area of the cylinder in immediate connection with the passage of a piston ring. It is aimed at providing a more-or-less uniform distribution of the oil along the circumference of the cylinder. However, a considerable variation is ascertained in the wear along this area. With the invention, use is made of a high-pressure injection through atomisation nozzles, so that an outspread oil mist if formed opposite the individual nozzles, which upon being influenced by the rotating scavenging air in the cylinder is made to impinge against the wall by centrifugal force, and herewith to form a substantially continuous film of oil in a ring area immediately before the passage of the piston ring. There is hereby achieved a good utilisation of the lubricating oil, i.e. a saving in oil, an a reduced and more uniform wear on the cylinder surface, to which can be added that the oil-dosing times become less critical than with conventional lubrication.

Pour lubrifier les cylindres des moteurs diesel marins, on injecte normalement de l'huile par des clapets de non retour dans une zone de bague du cylindre immédiatement reliée au conduit d'un segment de piston. Cette opération a pour but de distribuer l'huile plus ou moins uniformément sur la circonférence du cylindre mais elle présente l'inconvénient d'engendrer des différences d'usure considérables entre les différentes parties de ladite circonférence du cylindre. Selon l'invention, on procède à une injection à haute pression par des pulvérisateurs, de façon à former un large brouillard d'huile face aux pulvérisateurs. Ce brouillard d'huile, sous l'influence de l'air de balayage tournant dans le cylindre et sous l'effet de la force centrifuge, est précipité contre la paroi, formant ainsi une couche mince et sensiblement continue d'huile sur une zone de bague située juste avant le conduit du segment de piston. Ce système permet ainsi d'utiliser convenablement, c'est-à-dire d'économiser, l'huile de lubrification et de réduire l'usure et de la distribuer plus uniformément sur la surface du cylindre. En outre, les vitesses de dosage sont moins déterminantes.
