ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a lug nut capable of manufacture on existing nut forming machinery having a continuous thread through the entire axially inner surface while having suitable drive means placed upon the axially outer surface 14 such as a conventional hex. The lug nut has a conical bottom section for tight engagement and centering of a vehicle wheel upon a vehicle and an integrally formed flange at the other end thereof along with seat for acceptance of an insert in tight engagement therewith. The insert can have a highly reflective surface to provide a safety feature for night time driving. The insert is readily deflectable to a diameter at least as small as the insert receiving surface defined by the flange so as to allow the insert to pass through the open end, the insert having sufficient elastic memory to cause it to fit within the insert surface and against the seat with a tight fit without subsequent shaping of the insert receiving surface. The flange has an inner diameter at least equal to the root diameter of the thread so that a mating threaded lug threaded into the nut does not threadingly engage the insert flange.
