ABSTRACT: Luminescent rare earth borate according to the formula La1-x-y-zGdxA'yA"zB3O6 wherein A' represents at least one of the activator elements bismuth and cerium and A" at least one of the activator elements terbium and dysprosium and wherein x+y+z ? 1 0 ? x ? 1 0.001 ? y ? 0.80 0 ? z ? 0.60. These luminescent borates are used in luminescent screens, particularly in such screens for low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamps. -13-
