The present invention relates to a nail varnish additive which has a) at least one reaction product a1) of at least of one silane of the general formula Image where the radicals R1, R2, R3, R4 are identical or different having 1 to 40 carbon atoms and are non -crosslinking, and a2) of a silane of the general formula Si(OR')4, where the radical R' has 1 to 40 carbon atoms and is a non-crosslinking alkoxy group, and b) at least one solvent, and c) water, and d) a catalyst, and to a process for producing the nail varnish additive according to the invention and its use in a nail varnish.
