- 14 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE LYMPHOCYTE-ACTIVATING FACTOR, METHOD FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF AND METHOD FOR THE PROLIFERATION OF ANTIBOTY-FORMING LYMPHOCYTES AND PRODUCTION OF ANTIBODY USING THE SAME A novel lymphocyte-activating factor having an activity for stimulating proliferation and antibody-production of lymphocytes can be derived from small-intestine mucosal epithelia of a mammalian animal such as cattle by mashing the mucosal epithelia, removing the solid matter from the mush, dialyzing the extract, and precipitating the effective fraction in the undialyzed extract by salting-out. The lymphocyte-activating factor can be used for the production of an antibody against pathogenic viruses by culturing lymphocytes inoculated with the virus in a medium containing the factor.
