- 1 - Abstract: The invention provides a lyophilized preparation of a hepatitis B vaccine. The preparation comprises a purified hepatitis B virus surface antigen, produced by a recombinant organism capable of producing HBs antigen, adsorbed onto aluminum gel in the lyophilized state in the presence of a stabilizer. The lyophilized preparation is prepared by the steps of adding an aluminum gel and a stabilizer to a purified recombinant-origin HBs antigen and lyophilizing the mixture. The lyophilized preparation can be kept for a long period of time without losing its antigen titer and is useful for the prophylaxis of infections of the hepatitis B virus.
