An apparatus and method for the application of ultrasound to a locations within the body are provided. The apparatus can advantageously operate at a pulse duration below about 100 milliseconds, in the range 0.1 milliseconds to 100 milliseconds, a pulse repetition period below about 1 second, and in the range of 1 millisecond to 1 second. The apparatus includes a therapeutic focused ultrasound transducer (110), activated by an electrical signal from a signal generator (120).

La présente invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant d'appliquer des ultrasons à un emplacement du corps. L'appareil peut avantageusement fonctionner selon une durée d'impulsion inférieure à environ 100 millisecondes, dans la plage de 0,1 à 100 millisecondes, selon une période de répétition d'impulsion inférieure à environ 1 seconde, dans la plage de 1 milliseconde à 1 seconde. Les rapports cycliques supérieurs à 5 et de préférence supérieurs à 8 sont également avantageux. La présente invention concerne également des applications thérapeutiques aux ultrasons telles que l'assistance dans le traitement d'états médicaux tels que le cancer et/ou d'autres malaises.
