The disclosed data compressor compresses an input stream of data characters using LZW data compression. When the occurence of a run of input data characters is detected, the run is processed by successively looking ahead into the input to determine the contiguous numerically increasing segments that exist in the run and by utilizing codes from the compressor code counter to correspond to the contiguous numerically increasing run segments. Alternatively, the detected run is processed by determining the length of the run and mathematically determining, from the length of the run, the respective codes from the code counter corresponding to the contiguous numerically increasing segments that exist in the run. Specifically, an iterative mathematical algorithm or a quadratic equation algorithm are utilized to process the run.
L'invention concerne un appareil de compression de données comprimant un flux d'entrée de caractères de données, en compression de données LZW. Lorsqu'apparaissent des caractères passant dans le flux d'entrée, le passage est traité de la manière suivante: on procède à des anticipations successives au niveau du flux d'entrée pour déterminer les segments contigus en augmentation numérique figurant dans le passage, et on utilise les codes du compteur de code de l'appareil de compression qui correspondent aux segments considérés. Une variante consiste à traiter le passage décelé en déterminant la longueur du passage et en évaluant mathématiquement, d'après la longueur du passage, les codes respectifs du compteur de code qui correspondent aux segments considérés figurant dans le passage. Spécifiquement, on utilise un algorithme mathématique itératif ou un algorithme à équation quadratique pour traiter le passage.
