There is provided a bismuth diphosphonate compound wherein the molar ratio of bismuth to diphosphonate components is from 1:0.7 to 1:7. Bleaching and detergent compositions adapted for use in machine diswashing having reduced silver-tarnishing, as well as good cleaning performance are also provided. The compositions contain an oxygen bleach and the bismuth diphosphonate compound. Preferred processes for making the compositions are described.

L'invention concerne un composé de diphosphonate de bismuth, dans lequel le rapport molaire bismuth/diphosphonate est compris entre 1:0,7 et 1:7. L'invention concerne également des compositions de blanchiment et des compositions détergentes conçues pour être utilisées dans le lavage de vaisselle en machine et présentant un effet ternissant de l'argent réduit ainsi que de bonnes propriétés lavantes. Ces compositions contiennent un agent de blanchiment à l'oxygène et le composé de diphosphonate de bismuth. On décrit également des procédés préférés pour produire lesdites compositions.
