A chip destructuring and fissuring ma- chine (10) for destructuring wood chips (24) or the like. The chip destructuring machine (10) includes a support frame (16) and two swing assemblies (12, 14) that provide paral- lel side-by-side squeeze rollers (18, 20) which are swing-mounted on the frame (16) to swing the rollers (18, 29) about a swing axis (26) to- ward and away from one another between ac- tive and inactive positions. A drive motor (28) having a drive shaft (32) with a rotational axis aligned with the awing axis (26) is mounted to the support frame (16), and drive assem- blies (162, 164, 166, 170, 172) couple the drive shaft (22) to the rollers (18, 20) for rotat- ing the rollers (18, 20) in opposite directions at the same rotational speed. Co-acting stops (80) are mounted on the swing assemblies (12, 14) and are positioned to define a spacing (86) between the rollers (18, 20) when they are in the active position for squeezing and destruc- turing of the chips (24). A biasing mechanism (38) yieldingly urges the rollers (18, 20) to- ward one another into the active position. The rollers of one embodiment include a destruc- turing surface (22) defined by a plurality of criss-crossing V-shaped grooves (98) none of which are parallel to the respective roller's axis (100) of rotation. The criss-crossing V-chapel grooves (98) forth a plurality of diamond-shaped protuberances (96). The diamond-shaped protuberances (96) on one roller being opposite a juncture area (104) between the protuberance (96) on the opposing roller to avoid inter- ference between the destructuring surfaces (22) of the opposing rollers.

Ces rainures (98) en forme de V entrecroisés constituent une pluralité de protubérances (96) en forme de losanges. Ces protubérances (96) en forme de losanges se trouvent, sur un rouleau, opposées à une zone de jointure (104) entre les protubérances (96) du rouleau opposé afin d'éviter les interférences entre les surfaces à déstructurer (22) des rouleaux opposés.
